HGV Lorries and Vehicles with Alarm reverse alert systems and the wordings used

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

Lorries and HGV vehicles and other vehicles sometimes have an alarm system to notify other road users of their intention to turn left or right and the system will sound and say this vehicle is turning left or turning right or reversing.

The purpose of these systems are to warn other road users and pedestrians

However I have heard inappropriate language coming from them and this has what has got me concerned.

The big question are these devices are intended for serious safety reasons however the question is can individual owners of these devices re-record a message of their choice or is it possible for them to download a message onto the device there are 2 options I can think of one is the devices being used on the UK Roads at this moment have been hacked which having done my research is quite possible allegedly a laptop and a walkie talkie can alter messages. The big question would need to be answered firstly and if it cannot be altered or re-recorded by individual HGV Drivers or businesses then it could be a possible hack.

There have been a fair few lorries that have these devices on them and I have heard other words being used.

This should be a concern for road users and for safety and enforcement officers because not only is it quite possible to misuse the devices its also illegal on the UK roads under the misuse of communications ACT.

Its not about being paranoid or being overly concerned its about what these devices can be used for.

If you have heard anything from these devices on HGV Lorries when you walk past them or in the workplace do get in touch and leave a comment.
